Tax Free Shopping

Brown Thomas is proud to offer Tax Free Worldwide to our visiting customers.

We provide two different types of tax free shopping for customers:

  1. Through the point of sale (our BT till)
  2. Through Tax free Worldwide (our Tax back provider)

1. Customers who live outside the EU and make a purchase in store and wish to have their goods delivered. The customer therefore is not bringing the goods outside the EU through the airport themselves, so we provide a VAT Free service through the POS. The first option is also used for diplomats or any person(s) /company(s) that have tax exemption.

2. Customers who are residents outside the EU and make a purchase in store and are leaving the country with the goods will receive a TAX FREE WORLDWIDE receipt and can claim their tax back at the airport or by post.* ( if the goods are under the customs check value).

How does it work?

When shopping in Ireland non-EU residents are entitled to claim VAT back on items purchased which are brought home at the end of your visit. VAT in Ireland is 21% however the available VAT content for refund is 17.35% from which a small handling fee is deducted by the Refund Agency.

When shopping always ask for your Tax Free Worldwide form. The store will provide the tourist with a form and a pre-paid envelope and this information leaflet to help make your claim.
