3 REASONS TO MAKE TEKLA YOUR GO-TO FOR HOME TEXTILES
Kris Juhl, Managing Director of Tekla, talks to us about the iconic architects that have inspired this minimalist textile brand, the label's love of nature and their no-compromise approach to design. Fall in love with their paid-back style this summer…
1. THEIR ROOTS IN NATURE AND ARCHITECTURE
It’s safe to say that the Danes know a thing or two about design, from modern day brands such as HAY, Normann Copenhagen and Stelton to interior icons like Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, Bang & Olufsen, Georg Jensen and even Lego. It is evident that this Scandi sensibility has influenced this ultra-Instagram-able textile brand but according to Kris Juhl Managing Director of Tekla, its not just Copenhagen’s design heritage that has left its mark on Tekla but also it’s geography. He explains, “Copenhagen is very close to the ocean, which happened to be a very influential aspect of our work, both in our design path and our fundamental values. It leads to the fact that everything needs to be functional. A towel should get you dry; a blanket should warm you up, simple things like that. It's about functionality before the form.” He continues “homes that have been influential in our work are spaces designed by Alvar Aalto, Mies van der Rohe, Axel Vervoort and John Pawson. Even if it's minimal; they carry so much thought in every element and in the room that gives you the feeling of tranquillity and comfort, which is Tekla's goal.”
2. THEIR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY
Tekla was founded on sustainable principles and Kris maintains that “having a sustainable approach to building a brand and business remains a core value and priority.” Like most brands that are upfront and honest about their practises he adds that for Tekla “it’s an ongoing journey, constant research and weighing in many variables when deciding what makes the most sense for each project. Tekla's strongest point of view is to focus on making high-quality products that are timeless and functional. A piece that will stand the test of time, and you can hold on to it forever. This way, we ensure that we can sell the same styles over and over again, meaning we will have no overstock. Furthermore, we hope that the consumers will cherish our textiles in their home and continue to use them day-after-day. Besides this, we also work to include the best materials, have no waste fabrics, and educate our customers on how to care for the textiles properly.”
3. THEIR METICULOUS DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
When asked about how these textiles are made Kris states “we have a no-compromise approach to our fabric development. It can take anywhere from 3-12 months to reach the quality we wish to offer. We test and try out during this process and ultimately end up with a product that we feel meets the modern mind-set and provides the gentle and safe experience they desire at home.” The secret to their super soft touch lies within this development process, according to Kris “the softness of our bedding and bath products are both due to the quality, weave, thickness and treatment we give the products in the process of coming to life. All of these elements are part of why it takes time and hopefully also why our customers love them.” We are sure you will too.
We really hope that we leave everyone with an impression and belief that Tekla fits into their home, no matter where or how you live and style your home. Our own aesthetics remains very simple, but that is more to allow the products to stand out and for the viewer to get their own idea on how they would fit in their home.
