Brown Thomas Arnotts is proud to announce a new partnership with Crann - Trees for Ireland, aimed at planting 100,000 trees in Ireland over the next ten years. This initiative reinforces our commitment to environmental sustainability and the importance of afforestation in Ireland.

As part of this afforestation initiative, we are introducing a nominal charge of €0.70 for our branded paper carrier bags. These beloved and iconic bags can be reused, and customers are encouraged to do so. Additionally, customers will have the option to choose the beautifully designed "Bag for Life," available in three sizes.

What does Crann do?

Crann ‘Trees for Ireland’ was founded on 5th June 1986 by Jan Alexander with the mission of “Re-leafing Ireland.” As Ireland’s leading voluntary tree organisation, Crann is dedicated to the promotion and protection of trees, hedgerows, and woodlands.

This membership-based, non-profit registered charity (CHY13698) unites tree enthusiasts and is renowned for its high-quality Crann magazine and impactful programs such as the Crann Schools Programme, Easy Treesie, Tidy Towns Assist Programme, and the Giants Grove project.

Crann works with other organisations, including the Tree Council of Ireland and the Irish Environmental Network, to further its mission. Crann engages in diverse projects to enhance Ireland’s environment through planting the right trees in the right places, promoting, protecting, and increasing awareness about trees and natural habitats.

Are reusable bags available for purchase?

As an alternative to paper carrier bags, customers will have the option to choose the beautifully designed "Bag for Life," available in three sizes. This durable and multiuse bag has become a statement in itself, encouraging customers to reuse it for multiple shopping trips and thereby reduce paper usage.

Will I be charged for the paper carrier bag if I am an Encore Loyalty member?

Yes. In an effort to reduce paper items, each paper carrier bag will incur a charge of €0.70. Profits from the charge will go to Crann afforestation projects.

Loyalty points in your Encore Loyalty account can be used towards the purchase of our reusable or paper bags.

Will I earn Encore Loyalty points on the purchase of paper bags?

No. Encore Loyalty Points will not be awarded on the purchase of paper bags.

Is there a transaction / purchase amount above which the charge for paper carrier bags does not apply?

No. In an effort to reduce paper items, each paper carrier bag will incur a charge of €0.70. Profits from the charge will go to Crann afforestation projects.

Is the paper carrier bag charge being introduced in an effort to make money?

No. Our primary aim in introducing these measures is to encourage less paper packaging use to meet our ambitious sustainability goals.

All profits from this initiative will be invested in planting trees in Ireland. Brown Thomas Arnotts aims to reduce paper usage in their branded packaging by over 50%, ensuring that customers can continue to enjoy the experience of their branded bags while supporting a sustainable future.

Does the charge apply to paper bags / packaging from brands in Brown Thomas and Arnotts that provide their own bags (such as designer boutiques)?

No, the charge for paper carrier bags will only apply to Brown Thomas, BT2, Planet Beauty, and Arnotts-branded bags.

Can I return a paper carrier bag once I have purchased it?

No, paper carrier bags cannot be returned once purchased.
