Kate Bosworth is a fan of Augustinus Bader's incredible cult beauty brand.

With no prior experience in the beauty industry, Professor Augustinus Bader, the eponymous creator of a luxury cream, entered the market just two short years ago. Since then, his products have been proclaimed “revolutionary” and a “miracle” and he’s become one of the most Googled names in skincare. His line has already wedged its way into the hearts of such celebrity fans as Kim Kardashian West, Kate Bosworth, Victoria Beckham and Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio reportedly bought 28 jars in one go – terrified he might run out, such is the appeal. Then there are the countless make-up artists and beauty editors who hoard the stuff. In short, the brand’s original debut - a covetable face cream available in two different formulations, The Cream and The Rich Cream, and the more recent The Body Cream have caused a frenzy within the industry.

A pioneer in the field of stem cell research, Professor Bader (pronounced Bah-der) has spent 30 years unlocking the body’s innate capacity to self-heal. In 2007, he developed a groundbreaking hydrogel that allowed some burn patients to forgo skin grafts. Similar innovative technology drives the professor’s skincare line. Designed to jumpstart the body’s innate renewal processes, “it’s about achieving skin health through physiologic and innate ways,” explains the professor. “The formulas feature a proprietary Trigger Factor Complex - a combination of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins, and synthesised molecules - to activate regeneration of the body’s own stem cells. It’s like a toolbox that your stem cells need. Imagine if something broke in your home - you would call an expert, but if they don’t bring their toolbox, they can’t fix anything.” By using the skin as a natural bioreactor, the cream becomes uniquely personalised to the needs of the individual user’s skin. The result: healthy, radiant, and youthful skin.

With a starting price of €75 for 15ml, Bader knows his products will be a stretch for some, but maintains they’re all you need. “One lady told us this is going to make her bathroom very boring because she doesn’t need anything else.” He’s also quick to point out that 10% of all profits are donated to a charity which helps children with severe burns access supports they badly need. The brand is also funding vital medical research, so everyone benefits.

While the professor believes in the value behind the pricetag, in his downtime, he’s not averse to a completely free skincare boost in the form of sea swimming. “It’s so good for your skin, and great for your health too. I’ve never been swimming in Ireland, but my teenage daughter has. I sent her to visit Ireland because I spent two months studying in Limerick when I was 16 and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. She got into the water while she was there and said it was freezing. I’m not sure I’d be able for that cold. I think I’d need a wetsuit!”
