It’s normal to take a couple of months to find your feet in a new job, but Triona McGinley didn’t have any time to waste when she took on the role as our new Brown Thomas Arnotts Beauty Buying Director. Coordinating one of the biggest developments in beauty retail with the opening of the Dundrum store was first on the to-do list. The 12,000 sq ft Mecca of premium retail beauty space is packed with exciting and innovative products and specialised services.

INTRODUCING PLANET BEAUTY

Planet Beauty is already generating considerable buzz as a brand new concept. It’s home to a carefully curated edit of no less than 60 of the best brands in beauty and wellness, including 19 brands launching exclusively in Ireland for the first time. “It’s been extremely exciting,” McGinley explains. “It's a collection of the best beauty products from all of the Brown Thomas stores, so basically we’re setting a gold standard.” This exceptional beauty destination promises to preserve, respect and empower every vision of beauty, while delivering on inclusivity, diversity, progress, community and sustainability. “There’s a non-biased approach in terms of price points, so there's something there for everyone,” she says.

THE STANDOUT BRANDS & SERVICES

All of the new launches are worthy of airtime, but some standouts include Kylie Skincare by Kylie Jenner, Dr. Dennis Gross, Cultured Biomecare, K18, Oribe and Gisou. Meanwhile, the expert advice on site is the cherry on the cake. The Beauty Stylists, a team of nine independent make-up, skincare, body care, and haircare experts are on site to help consumers with pressing beauty concerns. As they work independently across all Planet Beauty brands, they can offer unbiased advice to ensure customers get the best products and personalised advice. Meanwhile, fans of Charlotte Tilbury can delight in the brand’s largest counter in Europe, and over at Lancôme, a smart skin scanner offers complimentary skincare advice worthy of a visit to your dermatologist. The latter is available exclusively in Dundrum for now, but due to be rolled out in all stores nationwide soon.

Having worked in the beauty industry for many years, McGinley has witnessed countless changes, most noticeably how savvy the average consumer has become. “They are much more aware than ever before in terms of ingredients, sustainability and recycling. They care about their skin and their wellbeing, it’s so much more than just colour cosmetics. It’s about how you feel in your body and while cosmetics are still very important, there’s definitely more focus around wellbeing and that can only be a good thing.”

BEAUTY CYCLE

Responding to these changing attitudes, the new store proudly boasts ‘Beauty Cycle’ a sustainability initiative, in partnership with with TerraCycle, who specialise in ensuring the recycling of difficult-to-recycle plastics. Now, customers can bring their beauty empties –regardless of where they’ve been purchased – to the Beauty Cycle bins in store, which are responsibly managed so that the materials can go back to source to be properly recycled. Even better, customers will receive loyalty points for each deposit made, so everyone’s a winner. And what could be more beautiful than that?
