Our 10 Favourite Ways To Upcycle
Old Candle Jars
Be inspired by luxury brand, diptyque, and give your candle a new life. In this modern day and age, we are all focused on reducing our own personal waste and being sustainable where we can. A simple way to do this is to reuse and upcycle your used candle vessels/jars to breathe new life into them and extend their life cycle.
Whether small, medium or large in size, an empty candle jar can be a lovely addition to your bathroom, desk or bookshelf. And the possibilities are endless.
Start By Cleaning Your Candle Jar
Let’s begin! Take an empty candle jar, and soak it in hot water until the wax begins to soften. Boiling water will melt the wax and as a result, it will rise to the top. Allow to cool and remove the wax, before washing the glass again with hot water and dish soap (avoiding the label). Now you just have to decide what you’d like to house in there!
1. Bathroom Storage
Your freshly cleaned jar is now ready to become a pretty sanctuary of bathroom storage. Sit on a shelf or cabinet, or even on top of your sink. Depending on the size of your jar, you could either use it as a pretty home for your toothpaste and toothbrushes, or as a little container for cotton wool pads, floss or even cotton buds.
2. Desk Storage
For smaller jars, this could be the perfect opportunity to create a functional addition to your desk as it can house paper clips, thumbtacks, pens or other office supplies. Both aesthetically pleasing and useful, your old candle jar can become a decorative essential on your WFH desk.
3. Flowers Or Artificial Flowers
Depending on the size of your candle jar, you can use it as a home for freshly cut flowers from your garden, with a little water, a small potted succulent or for an evergreen look, artificial flowers that will add a little colour and brightness to any room, regardless of the season.
4. Vanity Table/Make Up Storage
With medium sized glass jars, it’s the ideal container for holding lip glosses, make up brushes, eye pencils or even sample sized perfumes. Whether it’s located in your bathroom or bedroom, the Parisian classic label will make a lovely addition.
5. Tea Light Holder
Just because your candle is spent, doesn’t mean your glass jar can’t be reused for the same reason! Pop a little tea light into the glass, and use it indoors or outdoors as a simple tea light holder for subtle lighting.
6. Kitchen Storage
If you have a candle with a lid which you have cleaned out, you can use this as storage for anything from nuts and seeds to spices, or even dog treats. Add a hand-written label for clarity and let your kitchen essentials double as display objects in a pretty jar such as this.
7. Home Decor
If you have a clear jar, fill it with small decorative pebbles or gem stones, or even shells which you have collected from the beach and washed yourself. For a cute little outdoor decoration, or for atop your mantlepiece as atmospheric lighting at night, fill your jar with small string lights for a glittering effect or a simple centrepiece.
8. Crafty Essentials
This one is especially useful for the craft-lovers in your life. A clean candle jar can be used to store buttons, thread, ribbons and even pins - anything you might need for sewing, knitting or other crafts.
9. Do-It-Yourself Crafts With Children
Get creative with children here, incorporating paint, glitter or other crafty materials to create whatever their heart desires.
10. Key Holder
A cleaned out candle jar can be the perfect decoration to sit next to your door to hold house keys, car keys or anything else you might need as you come and go.
With so many options out there, you can do whatever your heart desires with your cleaned out candle jar. Add new life to your candle and reduce your own personal waste by reusing it.
