SHOPPING WITH…MARIANNE OF SMYTH SISTERS

Marianne Smyth is the photographer-turned-content creator who showcases the elevated essentials and outfit combinations we all want to wear right now. As she launches her Brown Thomas x Smyth Sisters edit in Belfast (and online) this week we spoke to the super stylish mother of two to find out more about her personal style and the pieces she will be wearing, loving and holidaying in this summer.

On the 3 words that define her style…

Casual yet elevated.

On how photography has informed her look…

I post the images I love and want to put out online. I’ve definitely taken the core basics of photography coming from an art background and I’m critical when it comes to lighting. It’s the biggest obstacle living in Ireland. If the light is not great I have to really work with it.

On the Brown Thomas x Smyth Sisters edit…

I’m a jeans girl through and through so I had to incorporate them into the edit. The Citizens of Humanity Ayla Jean are the perfect cut, you can wear rolled up or down making them perfect to team with flats or sandals. I also love The Row Maia long sleeve wrap coat, I think it’s fair to say my signature style is a long flowing coat. This particular piece from The Row is perfection for this time of year teamed with a white t-shirt and blue jeans. It's simple yet elevated. Finally, the Loewe print mesh dress, typically this is a little bit different for me yet when I put it on I felt amazing in it. It’s the perfect example of a “cool” girl dress. Ideal to wear in the summer with chunky flats or a sandal for more of an occasion look.

On her go- to look for…

…summer weddings?

I'm quite understated when it comes to wedding guest dressing, I usually opt for a silk cami style dress. Simple and sophisticated. I always gravitate towards a dress with a lower back, slightly sexy without trying too hard. Reformation and Acne always do the best slinky dresses.

...date night?

I feel best in long fluid, wide leg trousers paired with a slinky top. I usually slick my hair back so it’s more of a ‘look’. To finish off the look I always add chunky hoops and a slim shoulder bag. Victoria Beckham does the best wide leg trousers, I’m currently eyeing up a pair from my edit.

...a flight?

Oooh, this goes against the grain but I nearly always travel in denim! It’s usually a loose boyfriend style jean and a simple t-shirt. Right now, James Perse t-shirts and my Citizens of Humanity Ayla jeans are my weekly attire.

...a day in the sun?

I love to layer in the sun, I usually opt for structured shorts, a swimsuit that doubles up as a cami top and usually a playful shirt worn open to bring out some texture in the sunshine. That way if we are heading from the beach to a restaurant I can remove the cossie and button it up slightly to feel a little more done. I usually carry some jewellery in my bag to pop on and feel a little more elevated.
