How To Use The Dyson Airwrap

Dyson's hair stylers have been cult favourites for some time. The Airwrap is widely known for creating a multitude of different looks but without the damage, which it achieves by using air rather than heat. This phenomenon, designed and engineered by Dyson, is known as the Coanda effect. Similarly, the Corrale Straightener uses less heat and Dyson engineered flexing plate technology to create a unique straightening experience.

However, when it comes to the Airwrap, with different versions available and a variety of attachments, it can be difficult to make a decision on which is right for you.

With three different sets of the tool available, the first port of call is to choose the set that is right for your hair type. The Complete includes all available attachments meaning you can try every style, the Volume + Shape works best for fine hair and includes the attachments most suitable for that, and the Smooth + Control is ideal for those with thicker and textured hair.

Once you’ve decided on the styler for your hair type, let the fun begin.

5 Steps To Master The Airwrap

1. Dry

Attachment to use: the pre-styling dryer

This attachment takes your hair from wet to an air-dried look in no time at all. However, if you want to speed things up even further, you can go straight to the brush attachment. It’s important to note that your hair does not need to be fully dry to use the other attachments.

2. Lift

Attachment to use: The Round Volumising Brush Attachment

This attachment can work wonders - it smooths, dries and adds volume, especially for those with finer hair. To create lift, the round brush gets right in to the root, creating a professional looking bouncy blow dry.

3. Smooth

This brush has wide set bristles and is great for those with thicker or more coarse hair, allowing you to get your hair smooth really quickly.

Attachment to use: Soft smoothing brush

The soft smoothing brush works really well for those with finer hair. It has ball-tip bristles which create tension and get your hair looking really smooth.

4. Curl

Attachment to use: 30mm and/or 40mm barrels

The Coanda effect comes into its own when using the barrels. The arrows on each of the barrels signify the direction of air flow and therefore, the direction of the curl. The barrels are ideal for creating all kinds of curls, whether tight or wavy.

To use, place your hair in small sections, hold a section of hair towards the barrel, and watch it magically wrap itself around the barrel. Hold it in place for about 10 – 15 seconds, press the cold switch for a shot of cold air before releasing and watch the creation of a perfect curl, without any excessive heat.

Top tip: if you’re looking for a more natural wave, ensure the arrows of the barrel are pointing away from your face.

The barrels can be used in different ways to create different types of curls, with the smaller barrel creating tighter, longer lasting curls. The larger barrel is more suitable for those with thicker hair providing more body, and a professional blow dry look. The styler has intelligent heat control, which means that it measures the temperature and the the air flow prevents heat damage.
