LET IT GLOW
Luminous, healthy skin is irresistible, whatever your age. Just ask J.Lo. Here’s our tips to maintaining a healthy, radiant complexion.
Everyone knows makeup is the fastest way to fake a glowing complexion that looks as though you’re fresh from a holiday, rested and radiant. We’ve been there, done that and make no mistake, we’ll continue to return to our favourite palettes and bottles for an urgent skin boost when needed. But what if we didn’t need to rely on makeup quite so much to achieve great results? A naturally healthy and glowing complexion comes from good habits and a bit of patience. Products can then be the icing on the well-formed cake!
1. Sleep Tight
A good night’s sleep has a powerful effect on the brain and physical wellbeing, but getting enough sleep is just as important for your skin. Lack of sleep may interfere with wound healing, promote inflammation in the skin, and even lead to acne breakouts. When you sleep you are allowing your body to begin the proper healing process so the more shut eye you can achieve on a nightly basis the better.
2. Master Massage
If your face is feeling ‘doughy’ in the morning a two-minute face massage can help you look alive in time for that 9am Zoom call, as well as firm and contour over time. Use your fingertips, and massage a serum or oil into your face before applying makeup in the morning. The stimulation can help get the blood moving to wake up your whole complexion.
3. Protect to Perfect
Okay, so we’re cheating with product here but it is as essential to skin health as oxygen is to your lungs. Wearing SPF daily is the best way to prolong healthy, glowing skin, even in the midst of winter. Ninety percent of wrinkles are from sun exposure so it’s much easier to prevent the damage than it is to fix it. That means consistency is key - even during the colder months. If you sit by a window all day or drive a lot for your job, don’t forget: cell-damaging UVA rays can penetrate glass too. Look for a broad-spectrum formula to guard against UVA rays (the ones that cause premature ageing) and UVB rays (one of the main causes of skin cancer).
4. Eat Well.
Some of the best foods for skin health include avocados, broccoli, blueberries, spinach, and sweet potatoes, all of which pack a nutritional punch to support radiant skin. Vitamins, particularly vitamins B, C & D, play such an important role in reaching a bright, even complexion for your skin - helping you achieve that natural healthy glow from within. If you suffer from skin damage from the sun, age spots or if you are simply looking to combat the ravages of our environment increase your intake of those vitamins in particular.
5. H20 for the win!
Your skin needs major hydration to stay dewy and clear, so stock up. It can be tough to stay hydrated in weather extremes, both hot and cold. Carry a water bottle with you everywhere, and keep sipping throughout the day. We know that drinking alcohol can leave skin puffy, but so can drinking too much water at night – you wake up with puffy eyes. So drink water more during the day than in the evening.
