Part of one of the world’s most famous dynasties, Sabine Getty is no stranger to beautiful things and her discerning taste is envied all across the globe. Hence why she was the perfect choice of brand ambassador for Bvlgari. A brand founded in Rome in 1884 by Sotirio Bulgari, it continues to lead the way in exquisite creations that capture decadence and glamour. Despite its beginnings, which focused on the use of gold and silver, Bvlgari is now renowned for an eclectic flair that brings together classical and modern elements.

To celebrate the opening of the exclusive Bvlgari boutique in Brown Thomas Dublin, which offers jewellery, watches and small leather goods, the Geneva-born jewellery designer and Bvlgari ambassador spoke to us about some of her favourite pieces and how she’s planning to make the festivities shine.

What was your first jewellery memory?

“My first memory definitely comes from my mother. She always wore incredible pieces of jewellery. It was also the 80s and I remember seeing her going out wearing amazing full sets with earrings, ring, bracelet and necklace just for a casual dinner. Those were the days!”

How do you style your jewellery – keep it simple with a statement piece or lots of layering?

“I actually do both. I love to layer lots of pieces when I have a big event and really have fun with it and experiment whereas during the day, I enjoy wearing a great pair of hoop earrings that I love from Bvlgari and their B.zero1 ring in yellow or white gold as a statement piece.”

How did your collaboration with Bvlgari come about?

“I have always been a fan of the brand and so it came about quite organically. I immediately felt at home and was so eager to start representing the house and wear their beautiful jewellery.”

What do you admire most about the brand?

“Bvlgari is a house that holds a truly incredible heritage. I am in absolute awe of their creations of the past and I am truly amazed by their ability to look forward and create jewellery for today with timeless elegance too.”

What Bvlgari piece makes the ultimate gift?

“I adore their Serpenti collection and I think every woman would dream to receive a snake necklace! How empowering. The Tubogas watch is also an iconic piece that can be passed down generation.

What's the best Christmas gift you've ever given or received?

“I’ve given donations to charities on behalf of family members and it is always an uplifting gift.”

Tell us about your experience designing jewellery?

“I absolutely adored it. It’s truly my passion and I can’t wait to design again. The creative possibilities are endless and it is a craft where one just keeps learning and learning in order to perfect the design and outcome. I very much designed things I personally love to wear and I was so happy to see it resonated with my customers too.”

What, in your opinion, is the biggest misconception when it comes to high end jewellery?

“Probably that jewellery is meant to be bought only for very special occasions. One can easily spend the price of a piece of jewellery on a dress and yet wouldn’t think twice about it. Whereas jewellery is somehow considered as a more serious purchase. I think this is total misconception. I love to buy jewellery for myself and it doesn’t have to be for any particular occasion.”

As something of a global citizen, with roots in different cultures, how do you think this has impacted your aesthetic?

“I think it has opened my mind and enabled me to appreciate so many different cultures and find beauty in various and sometimes completely opposite aesthetics. There are so many universes and worlds I love that I am endlessly inspired.”
