IN THE BATHROOM WITH... JO LINEHAN

Join sustainable powerhouse and skincare enthusiast, Jo Linehan in the bathroom as she walks us through her beauty routine.

When I decided to change my daily habits for the sake of the planet's health and my own, I was sure a clean, cruelty-free skincare and beauty routine would mean compromising on price, potency or results. Plant-powered, science-backed, tech-engineered, recycled and renewable - it turns out sustainable skin and beauty are far more exciting and effective than anything I had used before.

Super Seaweed

Let's start with skin. I routinely experience hormonal breakouts and find the fewer unnecessary ingredients in skincare products, the better. Seabody is a new Irish skincare and supplement brand that uses world-first technology to harness the power of our own shores' super ingredient - seaweed. The Aquasurge Day Serum and Elixir Night Serum are lightweight yet deeply nourishing - they even received the breakout-proof seal of approval from my highly selective facialist.

RESET & RELAX

If I have a little extra time, I love to apply the Ground Comfort Body Oil. It's made with the most delicious ingredients; Calendula oil, Jojoba oil, and Marjoram and Neroli. A great night's sleep is pretty much guaranteed after application, and the fact that it's created by a fellow Cork woman, Peigín Crowley, makes it all the sweeter.

ALL ABOUT THAT FACE

BareMinerals was one of the first brands I tried when I switched to clean beauty, and it remains a makeup bag staple for good reason. All of their formulations are certified cruelty-free by PETA's Beauty Without Bunnies program - a trustworthy seal of approval worth looking out for. Needing a little more coverage lately, I've been using the flawless Original Mineral Liquid Foundation SPF 20. It's easy to use, the colour match is perfect, and it lasts all day without budging.

THE MULTI-TASKER

I love a product that can multitask for summertime, which is why Dr. Barbara Sturm's plant-based lip balm is on my radar, too. Made with anti-oxidant Vitamin E, natural oils and butters, it can be used on lips, as a highlight on cheekbones, brow bones, or add a light sheen to eyelids.

GLOW FORWARD

I finally found the perfect sun-kissed tint in Tan Luxe's The Body Tan Drops, a vegan, fool-proof tan free from chemicals of concern. Ditch the dodgy tanning mitt and add a couple of drops to your regular moisturiser for a natural, buildable glow.

HAIR THAT CARES

Aveda makes sustainable hair care easy. The plant-based haircare experts recently celebrated one year of being 100% vegan and offer only low-impact packaging and SLS-free shampoos and conditioners. The Botanical Repair Strengthening leave-in treatment is nourishing, smells divine, and leaves my fine, oily hair voluminous, soft and deep-cleaned.
