SPRING CLEAN YOUR SKINCARE

As you start swapping your chunky knits for fine, this is also a good time to think about tweaking your skincare routine for the upcoming warmer weather.

Hands up if you did a wardrobe clear out in the last year? We’re willing to bet that’s almost a full house. How about your beauty bag? No? That’s okay, we know that sourdough starter was a full-time job too. Luckily, spring is a great time to shift your focus to your skincare and reassess what’s working for you and what’s not. A few simple changes can make a big impact.

Take Stock

Review everything you have in your beauty cupboard and makeup bag. This process will help you rediscover some of last year’s favourites that you can put back into your daily routine this season. Dispose of any products that are past their prime. Many products will have a PAO (Period After Opening) timeline or date on their packaging, which signifies the length of time a product will stay active based on lab testing. Check for colour, odour and any significant changes which might result in ingredients becoming unstable or less effective. A simple rule of thumb is if you haven’t used a product since the start of the pandemic, it needs to go.

Lighten Up

If you’re swapping your roll neck for a loose-fitting cardigan, do the same for your skin. Swap out your moisturiser for something lighter and search for ones labelled as gels or lotions, which are innately lighter than creams. Try Lancôme’s Hydra Zen Gel Cream, an intensely hydrating gel formula enriched with moringa seed extract, rose extract and peony root extract for a healthy-looking glow.

Exfoliate

Consider opting for an exfoliating cleanser this season. As the mercury rises and humidity increases, which can result in more sweat and oil, opt for a face wash that also exfoliates to keep pores clear and reduce the chance of breakouts. Try Kiehl’s Clearly Corrective Brightening & Exfoliating Daily Cleanser. This exfoliating face wash gently purifies skin and helps remove dirt and environmental pollutants and refines the feeling of skin for a more radiant appearance.

Deep Clean

The combination of sunscreen and makeup can be a lot for pores to take, so thorough cleansing is essential. Kate Somerville's Goat Milk Cleanser gently removes makeup, dirt, oil and impurities without stripping skin of its radiance or essential moisture.

Supercharge Your SPF

Wearing sunscreen daily should be a non-negotiable. But you can save yourself time and an extra step by opting for a moisturiser with SPF. The only caveat? Make sure it’s a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 or higher (many moisturisers with sunscreen clock in at only SPF15, which won’t cut the mustard). Try: La Mer's The SPF 50 UV Protecting Fluid, which offers superior skin-balancing hydration and protection.

Try Something New

Spring is all about new beginnings so why not get out of your comfort zone and try something new? N°1 de CHANEL is a new collection of nine products, which includes skincare, make-up and a fragrance mist, designed to shake up your beauty routine in a thoughtful way, from skin prep to scent. After a decade of research, CHANEL scientists discovered that the red camellia japonica, has a unique molecule that combats ‘senescence’ in the skin, which is when skin cells stop functioning and go on to disrupt surrounding healthy cells, dulling the complexion and contributing to the ageing process.

Harnessing this skin-benefiting innovation, N°1 is the ultimate capsule collection with everything you could need for a fresh-faced glow. Modern and holistic, it is formulated to energise and revitalise –making you look and feel your best. And the best bit? The line has been carefully created with sustainability front of mind.

Organic inks have been introduced, wrapping and paper leaflets removed and plastic reduced with the use of recycled glass in 80 per cent of the collection, while the formulas themselves are made from predominantly natural ingredients. Even the camellia seed shells were used to create the lids of the glass jars to prevent waste. It’s also the brand’s first foray into refillables with smart, petal-etched red refill pots of the Revitalizing Cream. Now, that’s what we call a fresh start.
