5 BEAUTY TRENDS TO TRY THIS WINTER

One thing has become clear in 2022: We’re ready to wear makeup again. Whether it’s been reacquainting yourself with red lipstick or trying graphic liner for the first time, we’ve all started to have fun with makeup again. Wave goodbye to no makeup-makeup because bold beauty is back - and we’re welcoming it with open arms. Our Winter Beauty Trends 2022 shoot showcases the best makeup looks worth trying this season. So read on to be inspired, and shop the products to help you achieve each showstopping trend.

EMBRACE THE SPACE

When it comes to timeless beauty trends, nothing will ever beat the cat eye. The simple black wink has been on trend for decades and while we’ll always keep a black eyeliner in our makeup bags, we’ve succumbed to the allure of its descendant, the newest eyeliner trend: floating eyeliner. Utilizing negative space to exaggerate the overall eye makeup look, this trend is inclusive of all eye shapes and any skill set. All it involves is placing a line in the eyelid crease and one to match underneath the eye and voila! Oh, and the best thing about this eye makeup look? Floating liner is all all about creativity, so embrace those mistakes and tailor the style to whichever way suits you.

TRE KOHL

Welcome back to the smoky eye; a major trend from the ‘90s, sultry shadow is having a revival. Don’t believe us? Well, over 21 million of us have typed in ‘how to do a smokey eye’ on Google recently. The modern-day iteration of the smokey eye gives nuance to a trend we thought we’d seen a million times before. Both angsty and classic, the smokey eye is a dramatic look that can easily be remixed in dramatic tones. Even better, most only take one product to complete and the only rule is: the messier, the better. That said, you’ll want to avoid a racoon-eye effect. To prevent that, use a concealer across the lid to act as a primer base to ensure that the colour stays put, and when it comes to application, start lighthanded and build the pigment to the desired look.

BLUSH IS BACK

In recent years, as contour conquered our complexions, blush took a bit of a backseat. But as we return to the wonderful world of makeup and with the biggest beauty trend this year being ‘to just have fun’, blush is back - and in a big way. Bold statement blush - and even over-blushing - is one of this season’s biggest makeup trends. Brighter colour choices like bold peach, punchy pink and even radiant reds are taking centre stage. The way you should apply blush is also changing for this trend. Apply to the apple of the cheek and pull into the temple and into the crease of the eye for a mood-boosting, statement-making look.

THINK PINK

Be it a result of Greta Gerwig’s upcoming ‘Barbie’ movie starring Margot Robbie or Valentino’s AW22 Collection, hot pink is the colour trend du jour. While so far, we’ve only seen this neon shade take form in the shape of platform heels and mini dresses, bold pink eyeshadow is set to become your new go-to. When doing a pink eye look, there are just two rules. First, stick to single colour shadow and swipe across the eyelid. Second, whether in the day or at night, keep the face nude and clean…no colour on the cheeks, just beautifully blended cream highlighter and a nude lip so the eyes are the focus, and perfectly filled in and neat brows.

GLASS SKIN

From the famed 11-step skincare routine to sheet masks and beauty tech, K-Beauty has become somewhat of a skincare encyclopedia over the past few years. The latest beauty trend to come from South Korea? Glass Skin. As its name suggests, glass skin is simply skin that resembles glass. The complexion should look ridiculously radiant and decadently dewy, with a focus on hydration and glow-inducing products. The foundation of glass skin is always good skin care. K-Beauty favours double cleansing and layering lightweight, hydrating products to help create the appearance of glowing, dewy skin. But you can always enhance the appearance of glass skin with makeup. A light-reflecting foundation paired with a highlighter is all you’ll need to achieve this look.
