3 Steps To Reduce Redness

24 Hours With Master Trainer Kirsty Godso

Whether you’ve taken one of her classes or scrolled through her Instagram, it doesn’t take long to figure out that Kirsty Godso is a major triple threat. Not only is the New Zealand born beauty a globetrotting Master Trainer, she’s also a savvy entrepreneur (with several top secret projects in the works), and a social media maven.

Needless to say, there’s no such thing as downtime in Kirsty’s warp speed world. That’s why we asked her to road test CliniqueFIT, skin care and makeup essentials designed to move with you and outlast whatever life throws your way, whether you’re an elite athlete or squeezing a workout into your jam-packed daily schedule.

What’s your morning beauty routine?

I'm always pressed for time, but make sure I cleanse and do my lashes. It's so important to have a good mascara like CliniqueFIT Workout 24-Hour Mascara that I can trust is not going to drip down into my eyes while I’m sweating. I also have very sensitive eyes, so I don’t want to rub them a lot to remove my mascara. I love that this one comes right off with just warm water.

What do you love most about CliniqueFIT?

It's everything you need, nothing that you don't, and it's so quick and easy to apply. I love simple, smart beauty products with instant results. I don't want to spend a lot of time applying makeup, but I do want to look fresh. It’s also important that whatever makeup I’m wearing is good for my skin. I don't look after my body as much as I do just to put something on it that’s not good for it, you know? Because it’s Clinique, I know everything will be healthy for my skin.

What’s your biggest skin concern when you’re working out?

Keeping a fresh glow throughout the whole day. I teach my first class at 7A.M., then it’s non-stop training clients until my last class in the evening. All that can really dull my glow! I can't believe how quickly the CliniqueFIT Lip + Cheek Flush goes on, and how beautifully it tints both my lips and cheeks. The CliniqeuFIT Post-Workout Mattifying Moisturizer is also great for making your skin look and feel healthy and fresh.

How do you take care of your skin throughout the day?

Clean skin is my #1 priority. If I don't clean and rehydrate my face after a workout, I’ll start to see little blemishes pop up. That's why I always keep a good face wipe in my gym bag. I'm really loving the CliniqueFIT Post-Workout Face + Body Cleansing Swipes because they actually take everything off and don’t irritate my sensitive skin. Plus, I love that I can use them on my body too for a quick refresh between workouts.

Since you grew up in New Zealand, you must be good about sunscreen?

Absolutely. I love the beach, and I tan really easily, so I’m religious about sunscreen application from head to toe. And SPF is not just for the summer. I wear it every single day, year round. CliniqueFIT Workout Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 40 makes it easy to ensure I’m always covered. Because it already has SPF in it, I love that I don’t have to spend any extra time applying multiple products.

Master Trainer Flor Beckmann’s Gym Bag Essentials

Master Trainer Flor Beckmann’s Gym Bag Essentials

Flor Beckmann is not your average fitness junkie. She’s a kick ass Master Trainer, cycling instructor and inspirational athletic coach at the University of Texas. And although she has the same 24 hours in her day as the rest of us, each minute seems like a mini marathon in itself.

Flor kick starts her day at 5A.M. with a quick shower and smoothie, then runs out the door to teach her first spin class at 6A.M. After that, she buzzes between private training sessions then finishes the day teaching a few more spin classes. Her ideal midday break? Sneaking in a run along the Colorado River. And she does it all with a huge smile and an infectious positivity that makes you want to pull on your trainers and run with her. “Working out should energise you, not wipe you out,” says Flor. “Which is why I always go for short, frequent high intensity workouts like cycling and lifting.”

A high-performance day like Flor’s calls for a beauty routine that can keep up. Enter: CliniqueFIT, skin care and makeup essentials created for a highly active life, whether you’re an elite athlete or your average day just feels like a marathon. Here, Flor shares her best beauty tips to always look good in the fast lane.

It’s OK to wear foundation when you work out.

Just because you’re about to break some major sweat doesn’t mean you have to forgo foundation. “I don’t have perfect skin, so I want a little bit of coverage when I’m teaching a class or training a private client,” says Flor. CliniqueFIT Workout Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 40 is a lightweight, oil-free formula designed to let your skin breathe, so it won’t clog pores or cause breakouts. It’s also sweat and humidity resistant, so it stays put as your day heats up. “I also love that it has SPF because I spend so much time outdoors,” says Flor.

Mascara meltdown is not an option.

“A coat of mascara before my 6A.M. class makes me look bright-eyed and awake—even if I don’t feel it. But, it has to last through the workout, and the rest of my day. I don’t have time for touch ups,” says Flor. Her new favourite: CliniqueFIT Workout 24-Hour Mascara, which lasts for a full 24 (yes, 24) hours. The secret: It creates tiny black tubes around each lash that only come off with warm water, so you can sweat and swim without it smudging, budging or flaking. Flor’s tip: look down first, then wiggle the brush up into your lashes.

Make that post-workout glow last into the night.

KTo get from workout to night-out in seconds, Flor—a self-professed makeup minimalist—relies on a simple pop of bright colour. “If I’m going out right after the gym, I’ll let my hair down and put on a bright lip, which instantly pulls everything together,” says Flor. CliniqueFIT Lip + Cheek Flush tints skin with just the right level of radiant rosy glow. It comes in one universally flattering shade and is virtually foolproof; just dab onto cheeks and lips and blend with your fingers.

Quick cool-downs keep you going.

“Taking short breaks between sets helps build up endurance,” says Flor. Get revitalized ASAP with CliniqueFIT Workout Face + Body Hydrating Spray, which instantly cools, moisturises and refreshes, without making your skin feel sticky. Spritz head to toe, then get back out there.

To reduce redness, go yellow.

“My skin gets so red after working out, especially if it’s hot outside,” says Flor. “And the redness lasts for hours. Ugh!” Until now. CliniqueFIT Post-Workout Neutralizing Face Powder is a game changing colour-correcting loose powder that instantly calms redness on contact, as yellow pigments and natural minerals neutralise redness and absorb excess oil and shine. “It makes an immediate difference and I love how easy it is to just pat where needed. Plus, the packaging is so small, I can take it everywhere!” says Flor.

Always wash your face after a sweat session.

“If you do one thing after a workout, it should be to cleanse your skin,” says Flor. Post-workout build-up of dirt, sweat, oil and grime can lead straight to breakouts and clogged pores. “I move from class to class, so I rely on cleansing wipes for a quick refresh on the go,” she says. CliniqueFIT Post-Workout Face + Body Cleansing Swipes quickly remove dirt and oil, gently exfoliate, soothe irritation and replenish lost moisture all in one swipe.

Re-hydrate inside and out.

We know it’s crucial to drink water after a workout, but did you know that it’s also important to rehydrate your skin? During one 45-minute workout, your skin can lose about a litre of water. And don’t be fooled, oily skin types need moisturiser too. “I have oily skin, so controlling oil and shine is a top concern, but I know it also needs hydration,” says Flor. That’s why she’s a fan of lightweight gel formulas like CliniqueFIT Post-Workout Mattifying Moisturizer, which gives skin a matte, shine-free finish, even when you're on the run.

3 Steps To Conceal Dark Undereye Circles

3 Steps To Conceal Dark Undereye Circles

If you feel like your under eye circles are a never ending battle, try this three-pronged approach to achieve beautiful, bright eyes every day.

Step One:
Gently pat on eye cream

The skin beneath your eyes is the thinnest skin on your entire body. This means that blood vessels can peep through and seemingly cast a dark shadow under your eyes, even when you’re not tired or run down. Frustrating, right? The first course of action is to use an eye cream that plumps and strengthens your skin, making it more opaque, and hence less see-through. Clinique All About Eyes Rich contains sodium hyaluronate and barrier-strengthening lipids to plump, hydrate, and strengthen thin skin, plus a botanical complex that lessens puffiness and darkness and optical diffusers that scatter light to brighten the area. Use your fingertips to lightly tap it along your orbital bone, from outer to inner corners.

Step Two:
Double-conceal

It takes two to make things go right—and that includes concealing undereye circles. First, dab a creamy concealer just under the inner corner of your eye (which is typically the darkest area), then use the pads of your fingers to press and blend the concealer into your skin in a rolling motion. Next, lightly dust translucent powder over the concealer to help it stay put all day long. An amazingly effective combo is Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer and Blended Face Powder in Invisible Blend.

Step Three:
Distract, distract, distract

Well-planned eye makeup will draw people’s eyes upward, away from the circles under your eyes. Strong, bold brows, eyeliner along the upper lash line, shimmery shadow, and major lashes on top lashes can only detract focus away from your circles.  Just Browsing Brush-On Styling Mousse, Clinique Skinny Stick, and High Impact Mascara will all work in your favour.

3 Steps To Reduce Redness

Game Changer: The Puppy Eyeliner Look

Inspired by Korean beauty trends, The Puppy Eyeliner look is undeniably charming. This technique accentuates the natural roundness of your eyes, making them look bigger and brighter. Clinique Colour Pro Saem Mool Jung shows us how.

3 Steps To Reduce Redness

Step 1

Starting at the inner corner of your eye, apply black eyeliner, like Clinique Skinny Stick, along your upper lashes, extending the line down slightly past the outer corner. It’s essentially a straight extension of your lash line.

Step 2

Retrace only the outer half of the lash line to make it look thicker, creating a 3D “puppy eyes” look.

3 Steps To Reduce Redness

Step 3

Retrace the entire line again, this time using liquid liner (try the Pretty Easy Liquid Eyelining Pen) to create a rich, ultra black and graphic shape. Be sure to finish with a downward flick.

Step 4

Apply a few coats of Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara to make eyes appear even bigger.

Game Changer: Fast Track The Ombré Lip

Clinique Colour Pro Saem Mool Jung shows us how to get this artfully dramatic look in a flash. Use this ombré technique with your favourite pinks, reds and nudes for fuller, subtly contoured and ready to wow lips.

3 Steps To Reduce Redness

Step 1

Trace your natural lip line with rich, dark lip liner, like Quickliner for Lips Intense in Intense Cranberry.

3 Steps To Reduce Redness

Step 2

Fill in your entire lip area using the same lip liner. This creates a base for the next layers of colour.

Step 3

Apply a lipstick that is just a shade or two lighter than the lip liner you used. Use a brush to blend it into the lip liner base. Saem Mool used Clinique Pop Colour + Primer in Cherry Pop.

Step 4

Use a lip brush to blend a different, slightly lighter shade of lipstick only into to the middle of both upper and lower lips to complete the multi-dimensional ombré look. Seam Mool chose Clinique Pop Colour + Primer in Poppy Pop.
