HEART OF GLASS
An LSA collaboration with the Eden Project
Your home may be far away from the untamed biodiversity of the Eden Project in Cornwall but why not bring some of its beauty into your world with LSA’s new CANOPY collection, inspired by their glorious biodomes.
The Eden Project, an educational charity, in Cornwall, UK connects us with each other and the living world, exploring how we all can work towards a better future.
CONTAINERS WITH A CONSCIENCE
Winning the prestigious iF Design Award in 2019 this eco-conscious collection calls on us to hydrate and to propagate with beautiful, recycled glassware, embodying the environmentally conscious act of taking discarded material and turning it into something useful. What better way to decorate your own home than with glassware that allows you to artfully surround yourself with plants, sip from gorgeous glassware and pour from containers with a conscience.
HYDRATION – SUMMER DRINKS
About: The theme of water is fundamental to this LSA collection with each of the tumblers and carafe working a subtly domed base, inspired by the shapes of the Eden Project’s distinctive Biomes. The designs offer a contemporary way to serve water– filling up straight from the tap, rather than from a plastic bottle, encouraging the reduction of single-use plastics. They are also boxed in graphic packaging, made from recycled, recyclable materials and printed with organic vegetable inks to further minimise the impact on the environment.
Top tip: Why not add a simple twist to your water– blood orange or cucumber gives it a fantastic colour and deeper flavour and looks amazing in a tall carafe.
HOW LSA GLASSWARE USES RECYCLED GLASS
Locally sourced bottles and jars are sorted, crushed and heated in the furnace until molten. The glassmaker gathers, shapes then blows the molten glass into moulds to create the form of the object. Air bubbles and colour variations will occur as a natural part of the process.
PROPAGATION –SUMMER FLOWERS
About: This collection is all about propagating and nurturing plant life including bulb planters for growing flowers from bulbs, self watering planters and closed gardens, or terrariums, for low-maintenance indoor greenery. The vases can be filled with cut flowers and foliage, dried grasses or used to grow aquatic plants.
Top tip: One of the most beautiful interior trends of the moment is rooting plants in water. All you have to do is snip a certain plant at the base of a leaf and place it in fresh spring water in a glass vase—then watch as it begins to grow roots. It's the easiest houseplant you'll ever have!
THE EDEN PROJECT
Built at the bottom of a china clay pit, the giant biomes of the Eden Project – the world's largest greenhouses – have become Cornwall's most famous landmark, and an absolutely essential visit, Eden's bubble-shaped biomes maintain miniature eco-systems that enable all kinds of weird and wonderful plants to flourish – from banana trees in the Rainforest Biome to cacti and soaring palms in the Mediterranean Biome.
