We caught up with one of our Beauty Stylists, Aidan Corcoran, to get his insider tips and tricks gleaned from behind the scenes...
MY KIT BAG IS NEVER WITHOUT…
Whether it’s for beauty appointments, catwalk shows or shoots my makeup kit bag is never without Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Away Concealer, it’s such a versatile product, it has silk bark extract which allows it to move with the skin instead of against it so it never creases or separates! It comes with a really convenient sponge tip which is amazing for getting underneath the eyes and banishing any imperfections or blemishes.
For shoots, M.A.C Face & Body Foundation is a wonderful all-rounder; nothing gives skin the type of bounce that M.A.C Face & Body does. I love using my fingers or a sponge to apply it as this really helps push the product into the skin and keep it seamless.
MAC Strobe Cream is also a key product for smoothing onto arms and legs to give that sumptuous skin finish that will make anybody from runway to real-life ready for their close up.

BACKSTAGE IS WHERE TRENDS BEGIN…
Trends, like fashion, always begin as a mood. For us, the makeup team backstage, it's all about translating the designers look for the show to the face, makeup is our magic medium.
We kept away from excess shine and highlighter to favour the natural reflection of light from a great foundation base. At Roksanda, a beautiful textured finish was paired with the softest brushed up brows to give the look a subtle edge, and a Preen contour was added to the cheeks.
MY TRENDS TO TRY FOR AUTUMN ARE…
BERRY LIP
Each season the tone of a red lip gets developed at the shows, this autumn it deepened to a red-wine colour My try-this-at-home trick to bring this from runway to real-life is to always use a great lip liner, M.A.C PRO Lip Pencil in "Bespoken For" is amazing; use this to really sculpt the lip and carve out a defined cupid bow to add volume and depth to your makeup.
WELLNESS SKIN
At a recent beauty shoot for Brown Thomas Magazine, I used this simple trick for the makeup look to add brightness to the face. Start your foundation base with a lighter shade of concealer to brighten up the centre of your face. By lightening the under eye area along with a sweep across the sides of your nose up to the top of your cheekbones, this subtle triangle of light will add dimension and focus to your skin allowing the contours of your skin to really stand out. Laura Mercier Camouflage Concealer is a great secret weapon for fixing blemishes and evening skin tone, you can marry the shade perfectly to your skin tone by using a small flat concealer brush or beauty blender!

I LOVE TO PREP MODELS FACES WITH…
Ensuring skin is prepped makes such a difference to how the makeup looks and lasts on the skin. Investing 5 extra minutes at the start saves me a lot of time later and reduces the amount of retouches to the final result. For shoots and shows, I like to prep the skin for a makeup look with the La Mer The Treatment Lotion as it is an amazing skin hydrator. The best way to apply is to gently massage it into the skin and follow closely by the Sisley Eye and Lip Contour Balm which is an iconic lightweight gel eye cream, amazing for depuffing around the eyes instantly. This creates an amazing base from which to begin your makeup look.
Skincare that makes an impact is a must at fashion week, and everyday. As a moisturiser MAC Timecheck Lotion into the skin, to soften and hydrate. Timecheck lotion is the starting point for beautiful skin.”

MY MAKEUP SECRETS FOR AN INSTAGRAM SELFIE OR SPECIAL PHOTO ARE…
It’s important to go a little stronger with your makeup for a photo than you would normally for day to day. I always advise clients to go slighter stronger on their eyebrows, cheeks and lips to pull out their features better in a photo. Going a shade darker than your natural lip colour (Tom Ford is always a good idea) can do wonders for a selfie! Plus no filter is required when you use Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter before foundation or after as a highlighter.
