THE LAST WORD WITH LYRA

Rising star and style icon Lyra preformed at our annual ISPCC show in 2019. Hailing from Cork and London based she has exploded on the music scene over the last few years and released her debut single, Falling, last spring. We caught up with her to talk musical influences, what she wears on stage and her favourite Brown Thomas Cork memories.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR MUSIC?

Real life experiences and emotions - most recently, the end of a relationship. I channel my feelings into songs, it’s my way of talking things out I guess. It’s so therapeutic.

WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL POWERFUL?

When the drums start and I go onto the stage. I always get such a surge of adrenaline and the music just takes over me. That and my thigh high boots, I feel like a super hero in them!

WHAT MUSIC STYLE ICON DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?

I’m not going to lie, Cher has always blown me away - she is an icon!

WHAT IS STYLE TO YOU?

A way of expressing your personality on the outside.

The best decision I’ve made? To pursue my dreams no matter where it takes me. When you realise you can do anything that you dream of, it's really liberating. I'm not afraid to go for it anymore.

BEAUTY IS…?

Cheesy as it sounds, beauty is on the inside just as much as the outside. I think its about being confident and celebrating who you are. We’re all beautiful creatures, each of us totally unique, accepting and loving ourselves is so important because its that which really shines through.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORIES OF BROWN THOMAS?

It was in Brown Thomas Cork that I got my make-up professionally done for the first time. I walked out feeling a million dollars like a movie star!

WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM LOOK TO WEAR ON STAGE BE?

Something from Alexander McQueen would be the dream! The designs are always so cool and edgy. I just love it.

ARE YOU EXCITED FOR YOUR UPCOMING PERFORMANCE?

I’m really looking forward to the event, it's for such a great cause to raise awareness for the ISPCC who do extremely important work and provide an incredible service for children. We all need someone to talk to and providing a safe listening space for children is invaluable.
