London-based lingerie designer Katy Payne of Katherine Hamilton is dedicated to bringing delicate designs to larger cup sizes by creating beautiful bras with technical expertise, in exquisite detail. Here, Katy shares her inspiration, tricks of the trade and what we can look forward to seeing from this young brand…
DO YOU ENJOY DESIGNING?
"Even as a little girl, I was incredibly visual. As I grew older, I experimented with making clothes that were often vintage-inspired. I have never lost this love for design but up until I started designing I hadn’t found an appropriate outlet for it."
WHAT IS YOUR LEADING INSPIRATION?
"When I first began, vintage fashion, in particular, Victorian, was my key inspiration. My personal life and emotions also play a huge role in my designs with the vibrant colours of the current collection reflecting my very happy mood at the time of development - having moved closer to my family. For autumn we are focusing on a more geometric and modern feel which is quite a change in aesthetics for the brand."
TELL US ABOUT YOUR INCLUSIVE SIZING?
"As a fit-focused brand, we offer a wide size range from 26-38, D-HH and we are passionate about ensuring that each piece has sufficient support, which is particularly important for those with a fuller bust."
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES IN DESIGNING PRACTICAL YET PRETTY LINGERIE?
"This is where our technical expertise comes into play; we create lingerie that is not only beautiful and elegant but also incredibly functional for all-day wear. Our bras offer strong support without compromising the delicate and intricate appearance, we work hard to source high-quality materials that are lightweight yet incredibly strong and invest in beautiful luxury detailing such as French embroidery and trimmings. Our lingerie is genuinely an investment not only in all-day comfort but in feeling beautiful."
WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO COLOUR PALETTE?
"Black and dusky pinks are perhaps my favourite colours for lingerie. They are so incredibly wearable and I love how black is so classic and gothic and dusky pinks are so romantic. The autumn collection is proving one of our most popular ranges ever, it features jewel blue along with intricate French floral embroidery."
