4 UNMISSABLE FASHION EXHIBITIONS FROM THE CAPITALS OF STYLE
As the shows open in New York, London, Milan and Paris we take a look at the most unmissable fashion exhibitions to be see and be seen at this autumn.
Autumn 2019 Fashion Exhibitions
1. NEW YORK
MINIMALISM MAXIMALIST- FASHION EXTREMESWHAT: In a season where the two opposite visions of fashion are front and centre "Minimalism/Maximalist: Fashion Extremes," will be an interesting exhibition to visit, see fashion’s periods of calm and cleanliness give way to others dominated by excess, boldness and extreme luxury, go from the pure simple lines of Calvin Klein to the hyperbolic and funny worlds of Agatha Ruiz De La Prada.
WHERE: The Museum at FIT, New York
WHEN: Until November 2020
2. LONDON
TIM WALKER: WONDERFUL THINGSWHAT: Tim Walker is a British fashion photographer who regularly shoots for Vogue, even if you've never heard of the name you will have stumbled across his works flipping through magazines. Known for his eccentricity and immense creativity, the exhibition offers insight into the photographer’s creative process and a new series of photographs made specifically for this occasion.
WHERE: Victoria & Albert Museum, London
WHEN: From Saturday, 21st September 2019
3. PARIS
FASHION FROM BEHINDWHAT: The Palais Galliera presents "Fashion from Behind", an off-site exhibition at the Musée Bourdelle which focuses on clothing seen from behind. In a society that is obsessed with people’s faces, "Fashion from Behind" is an original and unexpected theme. By addressing our body’s relationship to clothing from a social and psychological point of view, the exhibition questions the perception we have of our own and other people’s backs. The back in fashion: from the majestic train of a court gown to the weight of a backpack; the sensuality of a plunging backline to complicated fastening systems. This exceptional exhibition of clothing and accessories from the collections of the Palais Galliera presents over a hundred items from the 18th century up to the present day. And to complete the exhibition, a selection of film extracts and photographs.
WHERE: Musée Bourdelle, Paris
WHEN: Until November 17th 2019
4. MILAN
A TRIBUTE TO ITALIAN CINEMA ICONWHAT: The exhibition spaces of Palazzo Morando | Costume, Moda Immagine pay tribute to actress Rosanna Schiaffino, one of the style icons of the Italian cinema of the 1960s, with a new exhibition project focusing on gowns from her vast wardrobe. The collection of over 40 haute couture and prêt-à-porter pieces has recently become part of the museum’s permanent collection and testify the evolution of the history of fashion, as well as the style used by the star.
