HOW TO BE A MODERN BRIDE?
It’s spring so our thoughts are naturally turning to summer weddings and if you are a bride to be chances are you are searching Pinterest and bridal sites for wedding dress inspiration.
For modern brides the landscape has changed, as brides depart from tradition and try out everything from full-on romance to short and chic looks, as well as playing with volume and one-pieces, for 2020 anything goes.
With a roll-call of royal weddings in the last few years we've continued to see the 'Duchess Effect' in full force—particularly as it relates to modesty and coverage. This look is all about keeping things concealed and we think it feels undeniably fashion-forward.
Tapping into the Neo-Victoriana trend in 2019 Ellie Goulding’s bespoke Chloé gown shines because of the simplicity of its silhouette and its pretty neck detail. We say opt for mock necklines, long sleeves, cuffs, and tons of texture, Zimmerman’s simple lace gown in case in point.
From Bianca Jagger’s iconic YSL skirt suit to Solange Knowles’ jumpsuit, sometimes the best bridal outfits don’t involve frothy meringue layers. In fact, you don’t have to wear a dress at all on your big day, you can make like Hailey Baldwin - who wore an oversized white suit the day after the nuptials in South Carolina. We love Solace London’s super-cool off-the-shoulder two-piece - this strong silhouette is certain to make an impact.
Danish actress Emma Leth (Rosenzweig) worked a daring floor-length lace dress by Rotate Biger Christensen with an oversized hat at her wedding last summer showing us that lace in all its guises can make an impact. For those less adventurous lace in soft colourways and textures are amazing options for the alternative bride. Red Valentino, Dolce & Gabbana and LoveShackFancy lead the way.
FRILLS & VOLUME
While volume in bridal is nothing new, this season saw an influx of a new type of romance. From puff-sleeves and short waistless dresses to frills and flounces, this ultra-romantic look wafted down runways in droves. New York brand Khaite offered thoroughly modern dresses in white that were layered with tulle. Roland Mouret and Roksanda continue to serve up the chicest little white dresses we all want to wear while Danish model Caroline Brasch, who walked down the aisle in voluminous white dress, showed us the Copenhagen way to dress for weddings now.
