HOW TO GIVE YOUR BEAUTY A SUSTAINABLE MAKEOVER
Here we shine a light on the beauty brands helping to protect the planet so you can too.
Has being under lockdown renewed your love of the great outdoors? Well now is the time to take care of our environment as we take care of our skin.
As a business, we are proud to say we are committed to making positive changes. Since 2016 we have removed and stopped selling all products containing micro-beads. These tiny balls of plastic – smaller than 5mm – which are commonly used to exfoliate the skin, are non-biodegradable, making them harmful to wildlife. They pollute our oceans and get into the food-chain. In addition, since the end of last year, all brands in our beauty halls have removed plastic cotton buds and makeup wipes containing plastic and replaced them with biodegradable alternatives; an EU law will enforce this by 2021 but we have acted sooner.
Thankfully it has never been so easy to shop green as the beauty industry is changing to become more clean, caring and conscious. Little changes to your daily skincare routine, from cruelty-free, vegan, refillable or reusable can make the world of difference so let the only footprints you make this summer be in the sand…
SUPERNATURAL POWER WITH TATA HARPER
A firm favourite of A-listers, these all-natural hyper-potent serums and creams plump and add radiance for a youthful complexion you won’t believe is not botox, all from the power of plant extracts. Made in small batches and free from GMO, toxins, fillers, artificial colour and fragrances and synthetic chemicals, these products are green right down to their glass and recyclable bio-based sugarcane plastic packaging.
ON THE RIGHT TRACK WITH SUNDAY RILEY
Transparency is the name of the game for this new brand making waves across the beauty industry, thanks to its focus on three main ingredients for glowing skin: an acid, a retinol and Vitamin C. Certified as cruelty-free, most of their products are vegan, with the exception of those containing honey or beeswax. Not just that, they purchase carbon credits to offset all their manufacturing processes and freight shipments, and have set a goal to have completely recyclable packaging by 2021.
CRUELTY-FREE WITH IT COSMETICS
If you think makeup can’t be animal-friendly, think again. Developed with plastic surgeons, IT Cosmetics is as committed to animal welfare as they are to banishing dark circles. Certified by The Leaping Bunny Program, it does not test on animals, it does not sell products in countries where animal testing is required by law, nor does it use animal hair in their brushes. It does, however, make you look like you average 20 hours sleep a night, you’re welcome.
CHANGES FROM WITHIN FROM THE ORGANIC PHARMACY
The saying goes that beauty starts from within. A belief long held by the cult London spa that have cultivated a loyal following since it’s foundation in 2002. Made in small batches to ensure strict quality control and maximum potency, keep an eye on our social channel for its launch.
