PURSUIT OF SUMMER

Forget three-piece suits and loosen your tie. For summer 2022, tailoring is taking a more relaxed approach.

After two long years, it seems now is time to say ‘so-long’ to the pandemic loungewear and casuals with the return of dressing up. Google search terms for ‘tailoring’ are up 600% and now mirroring the same levels for the search in 2019. With many of us returning to the office, wedding season is back in full swing and growing bored of matching sweatshirts and bottoms, it’s not hard to see why.

This doesn’t, however, mean we’re going back to the way things were. The suit is different now. It’s worn more through choice than necessity, meaning there’s room for creativity. Colour is favoured over traditional black and grey tones. Traditional three-piece suits are made more casual by foregoing waistcoats, swapping shirts for tees and choosing trainers over loafers or brogues.

Our Summer 2022 menswear shoot showcases the best summer suits for men. From relaxed formalwear and lightweight fabrics to contemporary outwear and pops of colour, this is how to embrace the new approach to tailoring.

FOREVER CLASSIC

To remain smart but with a cool air of informality, style a traditional suit with a slim-cut shirt, textured tie and printed pocket square. Equally, to dress it down for a more casual setting: lose the tie and switch the formal shirt for a white tee.

BRIGHT LIGHTS

Previously, houndstooth and wool would be the most attractive options when purchasing a suit. But for Summer 2022, it’s all about lightweight fabrics like seersucker, linen, cotton or tropical wool.

LAYER UP

Falling somewhere between a light jacket and a heavy shirt, an overshirt is deserving of wardrobe essential status. Typically, it features a classic collar, a few patch pockets, a slightly thicker fabrication than regular shirt styles and a looser cut.

RELAXED SHIRTS

Putting the ‘smart’ in smart casual need not involve the typical collared shirt. Instead, opt for a luxe tee in a contrasting colour to the suit for a cool tailored look. Or, opt for a polo shirt: the perfect blend of smart and casual.

COOL COATS

The words “wrap up” might not be instantly synonymous with the warmer months, but there’s a reason they ought to be considered, sartorially at least. A longline mac jacket will see you through the chilly summer evenings with maximum impact and minimal effort.
