SCHOOL’S OUT

Whether you turn this list of the best summer activities for kids into your June and July bucket list, or you just pick a few of your favourites, you’re sure to make some great family memories.

Summer is here! And while this should conjure up images of days spent relaxing on the beach, travelling to faraway lands and sipping sunshine inspired cocktails from a rooftop bar…for us parents, it can be a long and challenging ten weeks of summer.

Between organising playdates, booking summer camps and finding fun things to do, summer can quickly turn into a stressful, expensive and worrisome time. But that’s not what summer should be about. It’s supposed to be about sun, fun, freedom and most importantly, making memories.

That’s why we’ve decided to round up fun kid activities to do this summer. From trips to the zoo to learning and exploring all Dublin has to offer, the potential for family fun is endless. The only problem will be deciding what to do first!

DAY AT THE BEACH

Trips to the beach are always great fun, and Ireland’s Blue Flag beaches offer excellent water quality and an adequate number of lifeguards and/or life-saving equipment. Dublin’s Portmarnock Beach was awarded its Blue Flag just last year promising a fun and safe day out for your little one. But as babIes' skin is still sensitive, be sure to dress them in cool cotton clothes and a sun-protective hat.

A TRIP TO THE ZOO

A perennial favourite, no matter what age you are, Dublin Zoo offers a great day out that the whole family will be sure to enjoy. Roam the African Savanna and spot giraffes, rhinos and zebras. Hang out with the gorillas at the Gorilla Rainforest and travel through the Kaziranga Forest Trail to see the magnificent herd of Asian elephants. Dress the part in some fun zoo-inspired prints.

LEARN & HAVE FUN AT THE MUSEUM

As kids get older, finding fun things they’ll enjoy can be challenging. Enter Dublin City Centre. Home to some of the most interactive and educational museums, a trip into town is a summertime must. The National History Museum located on Merrion Street Upper should be at the top of your list. With skeletons of ice-age elk, a monumental collection of creepy crawlies and special events for kids thrown all summer long, it’s a great way to spend a rainy day. Be sure to stay dry in a hooded zip-through jacket.
