WHAT'S NEW AT MARIA TASH?
Maria Tash is known for her fine jewellery and luxury piercings. New Yorker and inventor of the curated ear she knows a thing or two about style. We caught up with her to find out more about her brand, hero pieces (available in store now) and the best places to people watch in the Big Apple.
On her hero pieces...
I have multiple piercings so I don’t ever have to choose. That being said, I really like my floating diamond tassel earrings and wear them very frequently, alternating between my helix and lobe. They are so lightweight, full of sparkle and movement, and they have many pear diamonds which are one of my favourite shapes.
On her first piercing...
I pierced my first hole, left and right earlobes when I was 14 years old, and I was a nervous wreck. My mom brought me to a jewellery store at the local Long Island mall and I was pierced using the now archaic method of an ear piercing gun. The woman who pierced me stated confidently “You’ll see, you’ll be back for your second lobe piercing”. I got out of there fast and thought to myself “No way”. I didn’t go back to her but I definitely conquered my fears about doing it again in the future, and well, the rest is history.
On her perfect shopping day...
I feel like I honed a lot of my shopping skills with my mother. She was a wonderful person and was always in the fitting rooms with me as we sifted through many stores for unique items, fits, and combinations. Today, my perfect shopping day involves researching and shopping online and browsing in actual, real life stores too. Nothing beats it.
On the energy of Soho...
I recently went to a new exhibit at the New Museum in Soho, as well as a few shows at Lincoln Centre Theatre. My NY corporate office is in Soho and the NYC store is in Noho so we always see many international fashion industry insiders walking around. It is like an international runway and we love having visitors from abroad come into MARIA TASH to covet the jewellery and get pierced.

On the shows she is most excited to see at NYFW...
Every season I attend the Dennis Basso show. His amazing team have custom made many high quality pieces with couture stitching and materials for me. I usually get seated in the front row and love watching the shows and the people who attend. I’ve also made new friendships at the show. It’s pure, wonderful, NY fashion week synergy.
On the best place to people watch at NYFW...
Soho is a great artery to see fashionable people, as well as the hip and well-heeled people who travel to the Manhattan MARIA TASH store.
