THIS ICONIC CANDLE HOUSE HAS LANDED IN-STORE

Rathbornes has been crafting luxurious candles in Dublin for over 500 years and this February, they are taking over an exciting space in Brown Thomas Grafton Street.

Candles are one of life’s little luxuries. There is almost nothing a candle can’t fix - be it a bad mood, a stressful day or a dull and uninspired room. With a simple strike of a match, the beautiful aroma can uplift your emotions and transform your space, making everything appear better bathed in the glow of a beautifully scented votive. In fact, the right scented candle is key to making your home feel like the calm, relaxing space you want it to be.

So what could be better than an entire space dedicated to the most luxurious candles Ireland has to offer? We’d argue nothing! From February 2, Rathbornes will host an exclusive pop-up in Brown Thomas Grafton Street featuring their luxurious candles. Venture up to Level 3 and you will be brought on an aromatic journey through Ireland with displays of their best-selling scents including an exclusive new launch.

To celebrate its exciting takeover, Rathbornes are releasing a brand new fragrance: Dublin Retreat. Exclusive to Brown Thomas, this new scent was inspired by Dublin’s Phoenix Park. The fragrance is made up of woody aromas including musk, and fresh violet leaves with spicy notes of nutmeg and cardamon. Available in both candle and diffuser form, this new scent will bring an earthy sense of calm to your home.

The new collection is in keeping with the brand’s love for Ireland. Founded in Dublin in 1488, Rathbornes is the world’s oldest candle company. Originally producing candles to illuminate the streets of Dublin, Rathbornes too provided light to the country’s lighthouses and churches. Fast forward 500 years and Rathbornes continues to illuminate the isle but now via the means of luxury scented candles for the home. In honour of their rich heritage, each Rathbornes candle celebrates Irishness in a unique way. The brand’s best-selling Dublin Dusk fragrance captures the enigmatic aroma of the Irish coast with notes of smoked oud and cedar whereas their most recent launch saw the brand collaborate with celebrated Irish artist, Maser. Honouring Rathborne’s rich history even more, the candle house continues to hand-pour each of their candles right here in Dublin using many of the same skilled methods they used in the fifteenth century.

What has changed, however, is the candles’ wax. Rathbornes cares about Ireland, its future and the planet. In doing so, they have made positive changes to their business such as combining beeswax, rapeseed and coconut oil to produce a truly sustainable 100% natural wax; their glass votives are sprayed with water-based paint making them suitable for recycling and they are even proud supporters of the All Ireland Pollinator Plan and the National Biodiversity Plan - where local farmers, authorities, schools, gardeners and businesses come together to try to create an Ireland where our bees can survive and thrive.

And it’s not just candles that Rathbornes do well. They have utilised their talent and skill for fragrance to expand into a range of diffusers, room sprays, scented cards and body lotions. With the aim to turn your home into the safe, cosy space you dream it to be, they also have a beautiful range of luxurious cashmere throws.

To shop the new Dublin Retreat collection or to revisit the classics, the Rathbornes X Brown Thomas Pop-Up will be open from February 2, located on Level 3 of Brown Thomas Grafton Street.
