SHE BATHES

With a Jo Malone London body care collection under her belt it’s no surprise that Poppy Delevingne extols the virtue of taking a bath. We caught up with the model and actress when she visited our Dublin store to find out more about her bath time rituals and why it should be top of your self-care checklist this autumn…

What’s your signature scent and do you change according to your mood or occasion?

Red Roses was the first Jo Malone London scent that I ever tried, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. For me, fragrance is very evocative – I use it to set the scene and my mood. If I’m going into a big business meeting and want to feel strong and powerful, I’ll spray Jo Malone London’s Red Roses or Peony & Blush Suede – both are very feminine but with a kick. Or if I’m going out at night, I’ll wear Tuberose Angelica or Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense as they both make you feel a little mysterious and naughty. My new obsession is Honeysuckle & Davana combined with a spritz of Grapefruit – it’s literally like sunshine in a bottle...

What are the scents that bring you back to a certain place and time?

It would probably be Fleurs De Gardenia by Creed, because my grandmother always had a dressing table covered in lotions and potions. I wasn’t able to reach them but I remember the sound of the bottles clinking together and the all-encompassing smell of gardenia. I thought to myself that one day, I would like to smell like a flower garden too...

Your wedding looked extraordinary - did you have a special fragrance for the day?

Someone gave me the advice that I should wear a new, never worn before fragrance on my wedding day. It was the best advice as now when I smell it, it instantly reminds me of that incredible day and it gives me butterflies – I wore Jo Malone London Orange Blossom.

What are your bath time rituals?

I always make time for a luxurious bath. I’ve been known to sit in one for hours on end until I’m literally like a prune. I love to play music and relax in the bubbles – it’s my ‘me’ time. I think that’s sacred and something worth celebrating.

What three songs are top of your chill-out bathtub playlist?

Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac and Opera.

Where is the most amazing place you have taken a bath?

I once went to a very magical place called Cuixmala in Mexico. The bath tub there was so large you could literally do laps in it, whilst watching the sun go down, tequila on ice in hand...

Do you finish bath time with a favourite scent? And how do you combine fragrances?

Yes, I like something fresh and floral like Peony & Blush Suede combined with Wood Sage & Sea Salt in the summer, and for the colder months, something a little more intoxicating like Pomegranate Noir.

Won over by the promise of sumptuous bubble bath? Then all you’re missing is the perfect playlist. Take a leaf from Poppy’s book and turn up these uplifting 1960s tunes, soak up the scented fragrance and relax.
