5 THINGS YOU DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT TOM DIXON
In anticipation of our forthcoming visit from Tom Dixon and takeover of our Dublin store windows we caught up with the incredible furniture and lighting designer. He answered some quick-fire questions about his daily rituals, sustainable design processes and what makes him tick.
HE LIKES RITUALS
" I’m like everybody else a victim of modern rituals – I check my phone before getting out of bed, but my favourite ritual is I still like a tea break like most proper Englishmen for 15 minutes at 4pm."

HE DISLIKES DISPOSABLE CUPS
"I’m interested in how tea is central to so many cultures not just the in UK but in China, India, South America and Japan. Our design is meant to put back some formality into the ritual as the ceremony has been eroded by too many bad practises like having tea and coffee in take-away disposable cups for instance."

HE BELIEVES DESIGN AFFECTS EVERYDAY LIFE
"Design is now such an all-encompassing word that I think it completely affects our whole being – if you think of software design or fashion design for instance you can see that it affects every action and interaction we make."

HE HAS A SUSTAINABLE ETHOS
"We are lucky to be working in a field where if you make something properly with care and good materials, then people can keep the product for a lifetime – I still have my Great-Grandmother’s Louis XV desk which she had bought from an antique shop when it was already 100 years old, so if you get it right then your product will be naturally sustainable. "
HIS WORK IS DISPLAYED IN THE BEST DESIGN MUSEUMS
"I spent so much time in museums as a kid so it’s pretty amazing to be part of collections all over the world."

HE GETS OUT OF BED FOR..
"A new adventure, next on the list is China."
