SHELLY'S SUSTAINABLE SHOPPING TIPS
With sustainability firmly on the Brown Thomas agenda, our fashion director Shelly Corkery shares her tips on how to shop more sustainably.
1. Buy something you adore
My first recommendation would be to buy something you really adore, whether it’s a handbag you’ve been lusting after or a dress that gives you amazing confidence. If you’ve invested in something in your wardrobe that you love, you’ll return to it again and again.
2. Think of wearability
Invest in wardrobe staples that have great wearability and that will take you from season to season. You do make a conscious decision to wear it as much as you can when you spend more.
3. Know your brands
When you’re shopping, be aware and look out for brands that are committed to sustainability. The Brown Thomas Sustainable Edit aims to bring extraordinary sustainable pieces to you, our customers. Fashion on the edit includes sustainably-made pieces from brands including Stella McCartney, Ganni, RIXO, Mulberry and Veja.
4. Be circular with your wardrobe
I’d encourage a closet clear-out every six months and when you do a closet clear out, look to donating or reselling items you no longer wear or want. We’ve expanded on circular fashion in the past by introducing pop-ups from leading luxury fashion resellers, Vestiaire Collective and Siopaella, helping customers to re-home their pre-loved items and adopt a more sustainable approach to fashion.
