GIVE BACK WITH A BROWN THOMAS BOX
Give back to charity, help reduce waste.
As the mood for circular fashion develops, we're getting more and more involved in initiatives that are extending the life span of clothes and giving back to our local communities. We think there is something very empowering about using your wardrobe to make the world a better place.
Our corporate charity of choice for 2019 is the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. This means our teams will raise important funds for the charity by organising clothing drives, donations, volunteering and by providing team resources and retail expertise to their stores.
“Last year Brown Thomas raised over €40,000 for SVP and over €200,000 for charity.”
In addition to this we have introduced the Brown Thomas Give Back Box – an initiative that connects people with pre-loved clothes directly to the charity, giving each and every Brown Thomas online cardboard box a second life to help people in need. So it is also a 'green' solution!
You can help while also reducing your environmental footprint. Give your unwanted clothes and items to SVP who will sell them for much needed funds.
THE GIVE BACK BOX: WE NEED YOU
When you shop with us online you receive your item all wrapped up in our Brown Thomas box. This very box is your opportunity to help people in need.
All you have to do is add any pre-loved clothing you don’t want any more to the box, add the address label and bring to your local post office. Your items will then be sent directly to SVP for free.
GIVING BACK IS SO SIMPLE.
1. Pack your old unwanted clothes* into your Brown Thomas online box
2. Seal your box
3. Stick the prepaid label to the box which has a FREEPOST stamp
4. Bring the box to your nearest post office
5. Be happy knowing that you’ve supported SVP
*The following items are not accepted in the Give Back Box: broken safety equipment, electrical goods, food items, hazardous items.
OUR BOXES ARE MADE FROM RECYCLED CARDBOARD
Did you know our online boxes are made from 100% recycled cardboard and our iconic Brown Thomas and Arnotts carrier bags are made from sustainably sourced paper.
WHAT DO ST. VINCENT DE PAUL DO?
We spoke to Nichola Mullen Head of SVP Fundraising to find our about the key initiatives SVP work on to fight poverty. In a nutshell SVP volunteers make about 400,000 visits per year to people in need in communities throughout Ireland. They also provide a range of services to vulnerable people around the country including their 220 Vincent’s shops, resource centres, housing, hostels and holiday schemes.
Nichola explains: "We love to see the Give Back Boxes arrive at our warehouse as the quality of clothing in the boxes is always very good. This in turn helps us to provide our customers with better quality items at prices they can afford. A second important benefit is that the donated clothing helps us raise the funds we need to support those who need our help. Also, the items of clothing that are donated are getting a new life, so donors are supporting sustainable shopping!" - Nichola Mullen
