From a makeup consumer to the CEO of a global beauty brand, Zoe Boikou is a true business entrepreneur. In 2008, Boikou, who was originally born in Greece and later moved with her family to Germany at the age of 10, decided to sell makeup brushes online on eBay.
She discovered that there was a lack of high-quality, reasonably priced makeup brushes available. "The price-performance ratio just didn’t meet my expectations," Boikou said. Fixing this gap in the market is why Boikou founded ZOEVA. The first 10,000 online orders were all prepared by Boikou herself. From design, production and distribution – Boikou managed everything from her apartment in Frankfurt, Germany.
ZOEVA initially only sold a highly-curated selection of 10 makeup brushes but has since grown to offer an extensive product range of over 260 makeup tools and products including eyeshadows, blushes, palettes and lipsticks.
Boikou’s entrepreneurial spirit is only matched by her dedication to charity; ZOEVA works with different organisations across Europe to help women in need. "We are committed to helping women strengthen their self-esteem and encourage them to discover their own individual beauty," explains Boikou.
That commitment reflects Boikou’s philosophy on life: "Makeup can be a powerful tool to help women feel more confident. And a strong, confident woman is a source of enrichment for all of us."
