COLIN BURKE

About Colin: Colin experiments with crochet techniques to create an exquisite collection of contemporary, hand-made knit sweaters in modern silhouettes. His work brings a new spirit to the traditional. As the NCAD Brown Thomas ‘Designer to Watch’ runner-up 2017 we are delighted to welcome him back to CREATE 2019.

The Hero Piece: His oversized crochet red knit with wave stitches and bell sleeves.

KATIE ANN MCGUIGAN

About Katie: Award-winning womenswear designer Katie Ann McGuigan makes her highly anticipated debut at CREATE; her previous work credentials include McQ and Marc Jacobs. Inspired by the the Bosozoku biker subculture of Japan; Katie’s collection works print and texture across a palette of lilac, mint, ochre, navy and jade.


The Hero Piece: Her turquoise printed Bosozoku two piece.

ASHLEIGH MYLES

About Ashleigh: Ashleigh Myles is a self-taught milliner who uses both traditional and non-traditional millinery methods and materials in her designs, recently awarded the Millinery Designer of the Year 2019, her collection, ‘An Awen’ – The Art of Cable Ties is inspired by everyday raw materials, Ashleigh transforms them into a stunning wearable art form.

The Hero Piece: Her green spiked headpiece was inspired by the Going Green Initiative for Ireland. Created by using over 100 recycled cable ties looped and hand painted on a base of green satin metallic brocade fabric.

HEATHER GILROY – NCAD DESIGNER TO WATCH

About Heather: Heather Gilroy is the winner of the NCAD and Brown Thomas Designer to Watch 2019 bursary for her collection ‘Among the Flat Pink Roses’ which was a collection inspired by ‘Repeal the Eighth' movement and passages from Sylvia Plath's poetry, the result is a celebration of modern femininity with laser-cut silk, oversized silhouettes, layered frills and cashmere.

The Hero Piece: Her oversized dress coat layered over a frothy pink trapeze dress. You can see all of Heather's final year collection ‘Among the Flat Pink Roses’ chosen by Shelly Corkery in CREATE this July.

THE DUALIST

About The Dualist: Designer and founder of The Dualist Anna Guerin feels passionately about the Irish landscape and its connection with fabrics such as Irish tweed and linen, this debut CREATE collection showcases a limited-edition range of tailored coats manufactured fully from Irish Donegal tweed woven sustainably.

THE TWEED PROJECT

About the Tweed Project: The Tweed Project aka Triona Lillis and Aoibheann McNamara create handmade pieces that combine beautiful Irish tweeds and linens with modern tailoring for a truly authentic expression of Irish design. Committed to the West of Ireland for inspiration and production they work solely with indigenous fabrics.

About Bláithín Ennis: A hugely successfully former CREATE designer, Bláithín Ennis returns with her striking cutting-edge handmade jewellery. Working from her studio in Wexford she references the strikingly beautiful Irish landscape in her work, all jewellery is individually handmade.

About Lainey: Lainey Keogh needs no introduction, she is the undisputed queen of cashmere, her colour-loaded sweaters and sexy cobwebby dresses have been worn by everyone from Kate Moss to Naomi Campbell and changed forever the image of Irish knitwear.

About Faye: The model-turned-designer credits her experience with internationally renowned designer and Queen of Knits Sonia Rykiel as the catalyst for her collections. Her beautifully crafted Aran knits for both adults and children are entirely sourced and made locally in Donegal.

LEONORA FERGUSON

About Leonora: Milliner Leonora Ferguson takes her inspiration from a fusion of Elizabethan headwear and Japanese hairstyles. Her pieces are carefully woven by hand from lengths of wire into traditional lace knots before being transformed into wearable sculptural forms. Leonora also introduces a sustainable vegan leather alternative Piñatex® to her latest collection.

The Hero Piece: Her sculptural lace headpieces named: Amime: (the space between netting) are standouts, and take the veiled headpiece into the 21st century.

About Sara: Éadach a range of limited edition prints from the stylist and illustrator returns to CREATE. Sara has reimagined her most popular print, ‘The Pirate Queen Sunset’ into a sweeping, swirling crepe de chine cape. She will also debut a brand new wild print of black horses and thorny dark roses, ‘The Róisín Dubh Toile’.

HELENA MALONE

About Helena: Helena Malone is a Future Makers award winning goldsmith, with a reputation for contemporary design and handmade precious jewellery. She believes in simplicity and minimalism and that jewels do not have to be over-ornate to be luxurious and interesting. Helena’s pieces are hand-crafted in her Dublin city workshop, her collection for CREATE 2019 focuses on negative spaces in precious metal.

The Hero Piece: Her collection 'PURE' made from cultured freshwater and Tahitian pearls, natural sapphires from Madagascar, recycled silver and 18ct yellow gold.

About Four Threads: Four Threads by Alanagh Clegg returns to CREATE with a collection of timeless collectables designed to transcend each season. Leading the way in sustainability in four ways, the collection is inspired, handmade, quality and conscious. She pays careful attention to sourcing her fabrics using handwoven cotton and local Irish linen to tell a story of craftsmanship and tradition.

The Hero Piece: Her linen coats are timeless garments which are made to be lived in and loved for a life time.

About Lucy: One of our best-loved alumni from CREATE 2013, Lucy Nagle has become an established designer at Brown Thomas stocking her collections across all stores. Lucy’s elegant casual wear is made from the finest cashmere and wool fabrics from Mongolia.

The Hero Piece: Lucy has created an exclusive capsule knitwear collection for CREATE this year.

JOKAMIN

About Joanna: Another exciting new addition to CREATE 2019 is JOKAMIN, a brand created by artist and designer Joanna Kaminska. She creates beautiful silk scarves based on paintings, made in Ireland from the highest quality silk from Italy.

The Hero Piece: Her mystical navy blue silk scarf with fish motifs. Designed in Ireland and made in Italy.

About Paul: Designer-maker Paul Stafford of The Season Hats will present his elegant yet cool headpieces just in time for Race season at CREATE. Recognised as an industry innovator for his fabric headpieces constructed to be foldable and fashionable.
