BEAUTY INSIDERS

We caught up with some of the most celebrated icons of the beauty world while they were in store this September for our annual Style Summit to get insider tips on beauty, their must-have products and how to use both to tap into your inner confidence…

KATIE JANE HUGHES

A self-confessed “beauty enabler,” Katie leverages social media to express her authentic self, show her skills and experiment. Her followers know her as many things; hilarious and talented with a confidence that shines as brightly as her dewy complexion.

ON HER SKINCARE SECRETS

“At night, I’ll clean my face until it’s completely clear of all makeup then I might do a glycolic pad and then I’ll do a serum. I just cleanse at night. If there’s any oils or moisture from my sleep, I might mist or tone, but I won’t cleanse again in morning and disturb the skin’s pH. I believe the natural skin’s equilibrium that’s happened overnight should be used to help our makeup.”

ON HER DESERT ISLAND PRODUCTS

“I think Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk is such an iconic product for such a relatively new foundation. Chanel Le Volume Mascara is my favourite. Recently Sisley’s Black Rose Cream Mask has really helped my skin keep its glow during my travels.”

If you missed the forthright, formidable and flawless icon at our Style Summit then fear not, we got the scoop on who’s top of her A-list clientele list and what she can’t live without.

ON HER MOST SPECIAL CLIENTS

“Well there has to be two. Princess Diana of course, because she was who she was, she was such an inspiring, brave and wonderful woman. And then the other, Cate Blanchett, who is probably considered one of the most beautiful women in the world right now.”

ON THINGS SHE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT

“For me, I can’t live without mascara, I can’t live without lipstick. Actually I couldn’t really live without some kind of good smoky eye shadow.”

CHARLOTTE TILBURY

The beauty legend talks with such enthusiasm about the transformative nature of makeup, the psychology behind beauty and why it’s so important to her in creating products the world will love.

ON EMPOWERMENT

“For me, it’s all about the empowerment of women and men. When we look in the mirror, we judge ourselves and what we see will affect our mood. When people wipe away tiredness and paint back a bit of life and colour to their faces with makeup you see their mood lift, their confidence come out and their shoulders go back; they change.”

ON HER GO-TO EYE MAKEUP

“I put on my Barbarella Brown Eyeliner - it sets for 12 hours and doesn’t budge - and then Full Fat Lashes Mascara on too. Just a little bit of eye. It makes me happy. And then my eyes don’t disappear. I like a little bit of something. Do whatever makes you happy - it’s all about YOU.”

VIOLETTE

A former painter, blogger, YouTube star and Instagram sensation and now at just 33 she is the Global Beauty Director for Estée Lauder. We asked her what beauty fundamentals she feels she shares with the brand.

ON HER LOVE FOR ESTÉE

“We deeply care, together, about women. Estée herself was so genuine in her approach to beauty. For her, beauty was an attitude. That's a direct quote and one I wish was my own, because it's so true. We have so much in common.”

ON THE POWER OF MAKEUP

“I always say, makeup is much deeper than you think. If you're having a bad day and you're going to put your lipstick on. Just like a good outfit, it makes you feel strong. I never used to wear makeup, only red lipstick, and one day a makeup artist put makeup on my eyes. My friends all looked at me differently that day, and I realised that makeup gave me a certain power.”
